Course
Goals: To introduce students
to Design Elements of line, shape, value, color, form/space, and texture.
The students will participate in studio practices using various media to
explore design elements and aesthetic expression. Art appreciation will
also be explored.
Course
Content Outline:

Line: Three or more of the following – contour line, dimension, gesture,
line variation, symmetry, vertical and horizontal angles.

Shape: Positive/Negative, overlapping, and silhouettes.
-
Value: Demonstrate volume with values of light, medium, and dark shading
with curves and straight lines.

Color: Painting a color wheel, understanding the primary, secondary, and
triadic colors. Shading and tinting will be explored.

Texture; demonstrate how things feel (actual) or sight (implied) by use
of rubbings, collages, clay, weaving, etc.

Form and Space: Will understand the emptiness or area around or between,
above, below, or within objects.

Lecture- Use of visual aids, prints, books, examples of student work.

of Assessment:

Completion of the assignment following parameters for that specific lesson.

Lesson requirements will
be either demonstrated or presented with lecture and charts.

Steps 1,2,3, etc, or a combination of these.

Teacher judgment based on explained criteria.

1 spiral bound blank sketch book “8 x 10” or “9 x 12” art sketchbook.

4 #2 wooden pencils ,eraser, and hand pencil sharpener.

1 spacemaker box or cardboard box
-
1 set (12) of colored pencils
-
scissors

1 large brown paper bag
