The Mediator Series is about a girl named Susannah Simon, usually
called Suze. Suze is a Mediator.
Mediators normally have to deal with ghosts. Especially ghosts who are
trying to get revenge on the people who they believed killed them. Suze
has to deal with these types of ghosts all the time. That is why I like
Suze.
To Suze, ghosts are just like any human being. You can kiss them, hit them,
or even kill them again but all that does is leave them unconscious for
a few minutes. After that, they start moving around trying to kill things
again. The only things that separate ghosts from humans are that ghosts
have a special glow around them called an aura and only certain people
and animals can see them instead of all people being able to see them.
Suze is somewhat like me but way more hard-core. I don't see ghosts like
Suze, but we have other similarities. She is supposed to be about five
feet and five inches tall which is my height, brown hair, and what sounds
like green eyes. I donut really have green eyes because they are hazel
but they look green. Plus, she and I have similar personalities. I obsess
over my hair. Suze does too. But she has a better reason for it. She has
curly hair which sometimes can have a frizz problem, but I have straight
hair. Straight hair is easier to keep smooth but I still yell, "IT'S FRIZZY!!!"
That drives my friend Nikki mad. I like reading books where I can relate
to someone. I can definitely relate to Suze.
There is another character that I happen to like named Hector "Jesse” DeSilva.
Jesse is an 18th century Californian
ghost. His fiancée mysteriously killed him on the way to his wedding
in an old boarding house.
Suze moved to California when her mother married a man who lived in California.
Suze had been staying with her grandmother in New York while her mom and
husband got Suze's room together. Little did they know that there was a
ghost living in the room. Suze kind of takes it out on Jesse at first.
But you can tell by the end of the books that they are getting closer.
For instance there is this quote from Jesse: "Then you didn't warn me,
because you are starting to like me or anything like that?” Jesse is supposed
to be major hot for a ghost, about six feet tall, curly brown hair, brown
eyes, and according to Suze, killer abs. Does that description sound familiar?
He sounds a little bit like Orlando Bloom
to me.
There are a total of five Mediator books. The sixth one is on the way.
In each of the books Suze has a guy that is interested in her, usually
the guy has a ghost following him around trying to kill him. She is always
doing stuff like sneaking out of the window at night trying to save the
world (or the guy) from destruction and Jesse is always there trying to
figure out how she's going to do to handle this. There is this one scene
in the first book,
Shadowland where Jesse catches Suze sneaking
out to prevent a ghost from not only trying to kill her, but also Suze's
family and friends. Ghosts have a special supernatural
power that makes them materialize or dematerialize. So Jesse materializes
every single time and tries to stop her, "Susannah, what are you up to?”
He says that every single time. And it isn't until the 4th book that you
realize they really do like each other except it never seems to go anywhere.
That is SOOOOO frustrating.
In my opinion, a great book has to have adventure, suspense, magic, romance,
and comedy. I can leave out adventure and suspense for certain books but
I prefer to have it in most of the books I read. Mediator Series
doesn't cover adventure, but it has a lot of suspense. You would expect
that after I said that ghosts like running around trying to take revenge
on people. It has magic with the whole being able to talk to ghosts. Romance
covers the whole thing with Jesse and Suze. It drives a lot of people crazy
and makes them want to burn the book, but they can't set it down. You have
to give teenage books comdey. Because most of the time teenage girls say
the weirdest yet funniest stuff. All in all these books cover everything
that I look for. Kind of like the Lord
of the Rings movie trilogy, hee hee hee.
