How To: Make a bed

Most of us leave our house every morning with our beds a mess. The sheets are everywhere, the comforter in a big pile at the end of the bed, and pillows are all over the floor around it- well I know that’s what mine looks like when I leave for school. Coming home to an unmade bed is for me, inviting. However, my mother says that an unmade bed is "a sign of an unorganized, lazy person!"  Although I disagree with her, I do know that my room does look better when it is picked up. So, in honor of mothers like mine all over the world, I am going to teach you how to make a bed that looks fabulous, without a lot of work.

To make a bed properly, it is important to start with the right materials. Some materials needed to make a bed are:
· A fitted, bottom sheet
· Additional sheets – as many as you please
· A firm or soft mattress
· Blankets and bedspread – optional
· Pillows
· Pillow cases
· Stuffed animals and decorative pillows – optional

It is important to make sure that the sheets, comforter, pillows, pillow cases and blankets are clean and dry before you make the bed.

Some people like to change the décor in their rooms every now and then. For example, some people like to have an ocean theme or sports theme in their rooms. Some people are happier with solid simple bedding. If possible, bedding should be pleasing to the eye and make the person sleeping in the bed happy, since the bed is one of the biggest pieces of furniture in the room.

To make a fabulous looking bed follow these steps:

1. Put the bottom sheet on the mattress. These sheets are normally fitted and fit snugly over the mattress corners. It is important to pull the elastic corners over the top of the mattress. The elastic should be tucked in underneath the mattress.
 2. Lay the top sheet on to the mattress. Make sure there is enough fabric over the edges to tuck under the mattress. Tuck the sheet snugly under the mattress at all four corners. Make sure the folds are flat for a more polished look.
3. Lay the next sheet over the previous sheet and again tuck in sides, but only tuck in the bottom corners.
4. Add any other sheet or blankets that you may have, and do the same as step 3 for each.
5. Fold the top sheet back over the blankets at the head of the bed about half a foot. Then tuck under the side flaps.
6. Cover pillows with pillowcases.
7. Place the pillows on top of the blanket and sheets at the head of the bed. You can lay them flat or prop them up, which ever you prefer.
8. Place the bedspread, quilt, or comforter on the bed.
9. You may fold it and place it on the end of the bed, or lay it on top of the other sheets and blankets. Do not tuck in the sides.
10. Place any additional pillows or stuffed animals on the bed for decoration.
Tips:
*This process always goes faster when there are two people making the same bed.*
*If you bed is against a corner of a wall, pull the mattress away from the wall and do steps 1-5. Then you    can push it back into place and finish the process.*

If you follow these simple directions, your bed will look tidier than after you woke up. I know that mine did after I followed these ten easy steps.  I hope that these directions help you have many peaceful, comfortable nights and sweet dreams.
