Lenghts of flights     The original airplane was flown in 1903 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina  and only flew for about 100 feet barely above the ground. Then 44 years later a jet broke the sound barrier. There are now comerical planes that can brake the sound barrier but usually only go about 500 - 550 miles per hour because going faster than sound is rather jolting.
