When the large armies came, they were going to kill all the people that lived in the town they wanted. Paul, on the other hand, was the leader. They had to deal with him first to kill them and no matter what, he wouldn't let any of the people die that he knew. Unfortunately, they kept making trouble for Paul. It was so hard for him and he just couldn't bare it after a while. This was a great scene in Hotel Rwanda so you probably want to find out what happens after that.
The point is that Paul Rusesabagina was a good guy! He would help anybody and everybody. You could tell him anything or depend on him for anything and you would be satisfied. He was kind to everyone and had to do the right thing sometimes but it would turn out to be good, usually.
