The date was March 26, 2005 when the
best game of the NCAA basketball tourney occurred. The two teams playing
were number one ranked Illinois vrs number 11 ranked Arizona. The game
started with Illinois taking an early lead of 7 points. But Salim
Stoudamire and the Arizona Wildcats wouldn't stand for when they start
to make a run to bring the game within three. By the time it was half time
Illinois was only up two. The score was 38 to 36. In the beginning of the
second half it was all Arizona. They were on fire. All of the players were.
Including small forward Hassan Adams, shooting guard Mustafa Shakur, go
to point guard Salim Stoudamire and center Channing Frye. The Arizona Wildcats
were up by 15 with four minutes left. But Illinois never gave up. They
started the come back with draining two threes by Illinois and one two
pointer by Arizona it cut the lead to eleven. Then Deron Williams went
off! He made two straight threes. To cut it to 5. Then both Teams just
traded two pointers so the lead stayed at five. Then Arizona made one of
two free throws. So the lead was 6. Then guess who? Deron Williams again
made a three. Illinois stopped Arizona. Now they had a chance to tie with
a three. Of course Deron Williams gets the ball again he shoots with little
time left and...
He scores!!!
They tied the game and the game goes to overtime.
In overtime you could feel that Illinois had won it. They started off with
a six point lead. Then Arizona started to make a little comeback. They
got it down to one with about forty seconds left. It was Illinois ball
and they had to shoot since is a thirty five second shot clock with forty
seconds on the clock. And Arizona makes the stop with 8 seconds left. But
they do something stupid, they almost dribble out the whole clock on have
to chuck up a wild shot. And Illinois makes the comeback and wins!
