Aids
What does Aids stand for?
Aids stands for Acquired
Immune Deficiency Syndrome.
-
Acquired means you can catch it
-
Immune Deficiency means a weakness in the body's system that
fights diseases.
-
Syndrome means a group of health problems that make up a disease.
Aids is caused by the virus HIV. HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency
Virus. If you are infected by this HIV virus your body will start to
try to fight it and make antibodies (a special molecules that are supposed
to fight HIV). If you get infected with this HIV this doesn't necessarily
have Aids, some people got HIV but never had aids. HIV is just what can
cause Aids. Some people get HIV then many years later, are infected with
AIds. Once you have got aids then anything can pretty much happen to you.
You can get measles, pneumonia, and any other disease because you are then
having a Immune Deficiency. If and when you are HIV positive meaning
you have the HIV virus then the disease causes your immune system to wear
down.
