The Paradox of Time Travel
By: Kyle Chesnut

If some one built a time machine and offered your to go back in time with them would you accept? What would be the consequences for time travel, and is it even possible? Some say that time travel is hubris and others say that we were meant to travel in time if we did. There are many different opinions about time travel and what effects it would have on us .
If you traveled back in time and killed your grandfather as a baby would you cease to exist or would you be unable to kill your grandfather? Some people believe that as hard as you tried you could not kill your grandfather; something would always happen to prevent you from killing him. Others believe that if you did kill your grandfather you would be deleted from the earth as well. There is another theory that there are many different options to the future that exist in between our time that we cannot see.
To me, time is like a straight never ending road and you are in a car going one second per second set on cruise control. Space has three dimensions x, y, and z. Time only has one dimension making it a straight line. Everybody around you is in a straight line side by side in their cars all going one second per second. What if you took your car off cruise control and slowed  down to 1/2 second per second. Every hour everybody else travels you travel only 30 minutes. Thus you stay in one spot of time longer than everyone else who appears to be speeding around you. In the sense of it you went back in time  relative to everyone else, but all you really did was slow down in the time you were in. Then what if you speeded up your car to five seconds per second. To all the people around you, you would be whizzing by five times faster than the other people around you. Relative to them you would be in the future, but to you, you are in regular time. You would have only aged one second per second, but had traveled in time five times that speed. There is one thing you can't do; your car doesn't have a reverse. Time does not repeat itself, so you couldn't go back and change it. You could slow down and possibly completely stop in time but you couldn't go negative one second per second.
If you found away to speed up and slow down in time it would be Nobel Prize winning material. Some would love you and others would hate you. What if a terrorist got hands on the device and speeded his time up so he could go into the White House undetected by guards and set a bomb to kill the president. You could also use it for good by slowing the time on a patient about to have heart surgery so their heart doesn't even beat during the procedure.
As you see there are good and bad consequences for time travel. If someone did figure out how to time travel the Senators and House of Representatives would discuss either to allow time travel or destroy it like the voting they did on cloning. The subject of time travel is mind boggling and keeps anyone busy for hours thinking about it.
