About Senators
On July 16, 1787 the Framers of the Constitution
made a bicameral legistlature called the Senate. The Senate represents
all states equally. It consistist of 100 seats , one-third are renewed
every two years. Each state gets two members in the Senate that are elected
by popular vote to serve a six year term. Right now our mafority party
is Republician with 51 seats. The minority party is Democrat with 48 seats,
and the rest are Independent with 1 seat. The framers of the Constitution
wanted the Senate to be a separate orginization that would share it's power
with with the House of Representitives and President
of United States. It became a system of checks and balances that kept everything
in place and equal. To be elected a senator you must be at least 30 years
of age, have been a US citizen for nine or more years, and be living in
the state they are elected for. The Vice President of the United States
has the privilage of being the President of the Senate. The Senate gets
to choose all their officers, and when the Vice President isn't there to
fofill his duties they will select someone to fill in.
