When I arrived in California I wanted
to try out for football, but I was too late and heavy to make it on the
team. I was pretty bummed out about not being able to be on the team. I
was still aloud to practice with them, so that's what I did.
Football practice
was three times a week Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. My dad I suggested
that I wear a plastic bag when I went to practice; this would make me sweat
more than I normally would and loose wait faster. Since I had never been
to a real school before now it was hard to go too football practice and
keep up with my homework. The practice was hard in the beginning because
I was never forced to work out on a regular basis. I almost quit because
it was hard for me but my dad told me if I wanted to quit I had to tell
the coach myself. I did not want to tell my coach so I stuck with it, and
I'm glad I did.
When practice started, I was happy
that I was aloud to practice with the team, and sometimes I would get to
play safety or tight end when some of the teammates didn't come to practice.
When I was aloud to play one of these positions practice was all the more
fun. I couldn't play all of the hitting parts of the game because I didn't
have any pads, so I just had to touch the person with two hands. The other
players were told not to hit me but some of them did, and when I tackled
a person they all cheered for me.
I went to all of their games, and
that was a big adrenaline rush when the games were at a tie and we were
about to go into over time, or if someone scored just at the end of the
4th quarter. We didn't win a lot of our games, but when we did win one
we were happy that at least we won one more game; and that we were
good enough to make it to the playoffs.
We played the Atascadero
greyhounds in our first and final game in the playoffs.
We had played them before; in fact they were the first team we played at
the beginning of the year.
It was a hot day and we had to play
in mid afternoon, our junior team was playing before we did; they won their
game and went on too the playoffs. We were up next and we were very hot,
the game was off. I was watching from the sidelines, they scored the first
touchdown and the second one, but we are always behind in the first half-time
but pulled back up in the second half. We weren't that worried about that,
but our couch was, so in the when it was half-time our coach told us to
step it up and that we have to want it more than the other team and right
now they want it more. So when we get back out there to want it more than
they do. When we got back out the field we turned it up and started to
pullback up, but then they scored enough to get us on to mercy role. The
mercy role is when you are down by 15 points. We picked two people to stand
out of the game, 14 and 25 we gained our points back and we knew that they
were starting to get a little worried about the score. They got their
players back out there once we were off mercy role, and then that was it
we lost the game 23 33. But you know what football practice was one of
the best times of my life.
