~*~During
the 1800's, school were far from the same as they are today. Most of the
school in rural America consisted of a single, one-roomed school house.
Unlike today, while students of different grades are taught in different
classrooms, back in the 1800's, grades 1st-8th were taught in the same,
small building. Each grade was taught in short sessions by one teacher.
Although the idea of so many different levels of education being taught
in the same building may sound a bit odd today, there were some advantages.
The younger children were able to listen to the older kids lessons, which
prepared them for later educational classes. In the school houses, gender
was seperated as well. Boys were kept on one side of the room, while girls
were kept on the other. Click here for
