~*~A trial is a structured process where the facts of a certain case are presented to a jurty in a court of law and they decide whether the defendant is guilty or not guilty. To prove that the defendant committed the crime, the prosecutor collects evidence and witnesses and presents them to the jury. The defendant is also permitted to tell his side of the story with the help of an attorney as well as evidence and witnesses.~*~

Different Roles in a Trial

Judge: The impartial person in the trial; a judge is there to oversee the entire procedure and to make sure that it is "played fairly."
Jury: "Jurors" are the people selected by both sides of the case to decide if the defendant committed the crime or not. 12 jurors are selected.
Defendant: The person being accused of committing a crime.
Prosecutor: The person doing the accusing.
