The
past 2 Christmas I wanted what every little girl wants, all I wanted was
my own horse. I
have
been riding Hunter/Jumper style for about 2 years!
I have loved every second of it. I really
wanted
to have an Arabian mare! My dad said I would
never get a horse but I kept on asking.
So
the first Christmas I was very unhappy when I woke up and had opened all
my presents and
there
was not a horse. The next Christmas I was very excited when my parents
gave me a gift
certificate
that said it was good for one horse.
Well
a couple months before my mom had been telling all of her friends about
how I wanted a
horse
and how much I love Arabian horses. One of my moms close friends, Sondra
said she had a friend, Vivian, who really loved her horse. So we called
Vivian and told her that Sondra had told us to call her and talk to her.
We told Vivian about me and what type of horse I needed. Finding a horse
is a very hard process to make a perfect match. Well Vivian called a month
or so later and said that she went to whitehorse, which is a tack shop
in Templeton, and she saw a couple horses for sale and this one Arabian
would be perfect for me and if that didn’t work she gave me another one.
So I called the person that owned the Arabian and we tried to plan a time
to look at the horse. When we
finally
looked at the horse I loved her, she was really sweet and cute and was
easy to handle. We
looked
good together and I decided to look at her again. Her name is Tessa for
short, but her
foaled
name is Contessa Hussanah and her Show name is Princess Contessa. She is
a pure bask
Arabian
mare and is 14.3 hh and can jump 3 ft courses. We became close friends
with the people
that
sold her. We ended up buying her and I love her.
Owning
a horse is a very big responsibility! Since my horse couldn't live at my
old barn I
Changed
barns. When we first got there we had to meet my new trainer, the farrier,
the vet, the
owners
and get adjusted to all the new rules and people. I try and go out there
everyday and ride
her.
When I first get out to ride her I have to go into the tack room, which
is where .Thall of my
supplies
are kept, and get my brushes, bridal,
saddle, and carrots. I greet her with a carrot and
other treatsen I put on her halter. I walk her over to a pole and tie
her up. Now its time to brush her. Horsesloved being brush its also very
good for them. First I get her currycomb, which will take off all the lose
fur. Then I body brush her and the last thing I do is pick out her feet.
If you don’t pick out your horses feet they can get many diseases. After
she's all nice and clean I put on her saddle and her bridal. Then I go
to the mounting block and get on I normally walk her over to the inside
arena. I walk to warm her up then trot and after that canter. After all
that I start to jump her, I haven’t jumped her to high since she wont jump
unless she has straight lines. After that I normally go on a trail ride
with my friends. When I am done I untack her and groom her again. I am
very lucky that I don’t have to muck out her stall because he board somewhere.
So I give her a bucket of carrots and say good-bye.
I
am very fortunate to have a hors that works good for me and can do everything
I want her to
do.
This one Christmas wish I will never forget!
