6:00 A.M. in the morning I woke up and realize that my alarm didn’t go off and that I should have gotten up a half an hour ago. I was supposed to meet at my scout shack at 7:30 A.M. and I only had a half an hour left to get everything together. My dad was putting our things in the car while I was taking my 30 second shower. Finally after my dad and I had said goodbye to my mom and had eaten we left for the shack. Hello my name is Dane Lindgren and I am in Boy Scout Troop 322 and I am going to tell you about my adventure at the Grand Canyon. It was about 7:45 by the time we got to the shack, and even though I was late there’s always a delay on the scheduled time to leave.
We were on the road at 8:00 A.M. and on our way. We slept, listened to music, slept some more, played games, and slept some more. Then we did it all over. We also yelled things at people as we passed them like, " You’re hot," and stuff like that. Then after we got bored of that we slept some more. After about nine hours we finally reached the Grand Canyon. It was huge! I’ve never seen anything like it before. It was extremely hot too. We spent the night that night on the north rim of the canyon, which is usually very cold and hard to get to. The next day we started down into the valley and I really hated it. Not because it was hard or because it was hot but because it was dusty, and down hill so when we were going down there was a lot of momentum when our legs hit and they hit hard enough to stir up a lot of dust. The second day we took a layover day, which is where one day in the whole trip we take a break and have a little fun. We went to a water fall called Ribbon Falls, where we could go swimming, make dams, we had shade and there was even a place to climb up onto a huge rock and be able to take somewhat of a shower. When we returned to our campsite we played cards, went swimming in a creek, and slept! The third day we went to Bright Angel campground and it was very, very hot! That night we went to a store that was down at the bottom of the canyon. You could buy lemonade or beer, but earlier that day once we had got there we had learned our lesson to never start hiking so early ever again. I’m not kidding when I say that it was about 115 degrees F. So keeping in mind that the next day we wanted to be able to rest and hike when it was cool we left at 5:00 A.M. the next morning. We got To Indian Gardens Campsite at about 12:00P.M. We just played cards and rested for most of the day but after a while we went down to an overlook called Plateau Point and it was beautiful. You could see the Colorado River and a lot of the trails. We ended up liking the idea of leaving the campsite early so much that we did it the next day too. Once we got to the top of the South Rim of the canyon we were all beat. That night everyone slept like babies. The next day we went to a gift store and bought souvenirs. Once we had loaded up our cars we were on the road again.
