Course Description and Requirements
Course Title: Course 1 - Algebra
Teacher: Ms. Sulaitis












 

Textbook: Algebra 1: Concepts and Skills by McDougal Littell

Course Description: Algebra I - Course 1 is the first of a two-year course to accommodate students needing two years to master Algebra I concepts.  Students taking this course should have successfully completed Pre-Algebra.

 Topics covered in this course will include:  Algebraic Expressions, Equations and Inequalities; Properties of Real Numbers; Graphing and Solving Linear Equations, Inequalities and Functions; and Solving a System of Linear Equations.
 

Grading System: Grades will be based on points earned from unit assessments, homework assignments, weekly homework quizzes, problem assignments and daily quick quizzes.

 The following standard percentages will be used:
 100(+)%  -  90%  =  A
        89%  -  80%  =  B
        79%  -  70%  =  C
        69%  -  60%  =  D
          Below 60%  =  F
 

Homework: Homework will be assigned and checked daily (Mon-Fri).  It is due at the beginning of class the following day.  Work must be shown on your homework in order to receive credit.  A homework quiz will be given at the end of each week to check for accuracy and understanding.  All homework needs to be saved therefore a spiral notebook is recommended.  (30% of grade)
 

Tests: Tests will be given at the end of each unit (approximately every 4 weeks).  Graded tests will be sent home for parent signature.
 (55% of grade)
 

Quick Quizzes: Quizzes will be given daily as warm-ups.  Books may be used on the quizzes so it is essential that you bring your book to class each day.
 

Classwork/ Participation:  Being prepared for class (bringing all materials to class) and participating appropriately in class is essential for success as a student.  (15% of grade)
 

Make-up Work: The school’s late policy, as explained in the student handbook, will be followed.
 

Additional Information: The following materials should be purchased and brought to class each day:

  1. 1. Be in your seat when the class starts.
  2. 2. Bring all the materials listed above (including your textbook) to class daily.
  3. 3. Be respectful of students and teacher(s) by listening “QUIETLY” when they are speaking.  You  will appreciate this same courtesy when it is your turn to speak.
  4. 4. Please RAISE YOUR HAND if you wish to speak and wait to be called on.
  5. 5. NO FOOD, DRINKS OR GUM IN CLASS!!
  6. 6. Remain in you seat during class.  If you need to get up, please raise your hand and ask.
  7. 7. Please use the restroom and go to your locker before class begins.
