Course Description and Requirements
Course Title: Geometry
Teacher: Ms. Sulaitis







 

Textbook: Geometry : Concepts and Skills by McDougal Littell

Course Description: Geometry is being taught as an advanced level math course and is intended for students who enter with above-average mathematical and problem-solving skills.
The prerequisite for the course is Algebra I.

Key concepts include:
· Basic Elements of Geometry
· Geometric Constructions
· Reasoning and Developing Proof
· Properties of Lines and Angles
· Congruent Triangles and Properties of Triangles
· Properties of Quadrilaterals
· Transformations
· Similar Polygons
· Right Triangles and Trigonometry
· Properties of Circles
· Areas of Polygons and Circles
· Surface Area and Volume of Solids

Tests: Tests will be given at the end of each unit (approximately every 3 weeks).  Tool kits prepared prior to the test may be used.  Graded tests will be sent home for parent signature.
 (55% of grade)
 

Homework: Homework will be assigned and checked daily (Mon-Fri).  It is due at the beginning of class the following day.  Work must be shown on your homework in order to receive credit.  A homework quiz will be given  each week to check for accuracy and understanding.  All homework needs to be saved therefore a spiral notebook with graph paper is recommended.  (25% of grade)

Quick Quizzes: Quizzes will be given daily as warm-ups.  Books may be used on the quizzes so it is essential that you bring your book to class each day.  (10% of grade)

Class Participation: Being prepared for class (bringing all materials to class) and participating appropriately in class is essential for success as a student.
Notebooks will be checked for organization and completeness.  (10% of grade)

Mark-up Work: The school’s late policy, as explained in the student handbook, will be followed.
 

Grading System: Grades will be based on points earned from unit assessments, homework assignments, weekly homework quizzes, problem solving assignments and quick quizzes.
 The following standard percentages will be used:
 100(+)%  -  90%  =  A
        89%  -  80%  =  B
        79%  -  70%  =  C
        69%  -  60%  =  D
         Below 60%   =  F

  7. 6. Remain in you seat during class.  If you need to get up, please raise your hand and ask.
  8. 7. Please use the restroom and go to your locker before class begins.
