World History 7 is a
two semester class which highlights the fall of the Roman Empire, the emergence
of Islam, little known African Empires, Asian civilization, medieval societies
of Europe and Japan, Europe from 1300 to 1600, and the civilizations of
the Americas. Students will recognize the interrelatedness of geography,
economics, culture, belief systems, and political systems within history.
They will create a sense of empathy for the past and be able to place meaning
to time and chronology. Students will analyze conflict and cooperation
through the ages. They will develop an appreciation of the multicultural
and multiethnic dimension of our society and the contributions made by
groups within the scope of study. Students will be asked to question, debate
the past, and relate to today's events. An interactive component will allow
the student to participate in a living history where he or she becomes
a part of the past. During these segments, the student will experience
a multimedia presentation.
Each student
will be responsible to maintain a daily journal that will reflect his or
her opinions and knowledge of a prompt that relates to the lesson of that
day. Students will be expected to participate in a research-based endeavor
in which study skills would include exploring primary and secondary sources,
the use of a library, internet, and other resources to develop a quality
project.
